After contemplating several 2011/12 used M796 - I decided to buy a 2013 for a bit more. I am 53, and been on Harleys past 15 years. Last sporty I had was a CBR600 (CCS Road Racing). I decided on the M796 due to all the positive things I read about it on this forum and elsewhere.

So nimble and responsive. Wanted something to have fun with without power I'd never use on public roads. Perfect bike. The vibrations at low speed RPMs were not bad as I read about. I imagine a sprocket change would help but I like the highway top-end. I plan to keep it stock with the exception of pipes (I read lots so I'm set there) and maybe a larger screen if there are any suggestions on a larger screen.

I am so happy with my purchase. I feel 25 again when I'm on it. I added a photo.

Congrats on your purchase! In the few years they've been out, I have yet to see one locally for sale in my area, and I don't blame people for not wanting to sell them.

Since the first day I got mine, I've loved every minute on the bike. Like you said, fun and nimble, without extreme power you'd never use on the street. To me pretty close to the perfect bike.

Soooooooooo, what mods have you got planned ? I see you already have the fastest color, good choice.

I fell in love with the white/red frame as soon as I first saw it, back in 2010 sometime, and went to the dealer to put a deposit on it right away. I had to wait nearly 8 mos to get mine, that was an agonizing wait. :D

Short of the Akrapovic pipes, my mods were all go, since I use the bike on the track as well.

Current mods:
-Power Commander 5, better fueling to smooth out the throttle response
-41 tooth OEM rear from a Hyper to adjust gearing a bit
-Monster 1100 adjustable Showa's, shock clevis and kickstand to raise the bike a little and provide for some lean angle at the track
-Streetfighter radial brake and clutch masters and Ferodo ST front pads (WAYYYY better braking)

Yes, Scotty...good one about Red color. But I actually struggled cuz all colors looked great tome. I do plan on slip-ons and spent a lot of time reading here about them. I like the look of the V&H CS1 Dual (in black) but the website states will fit up to 2011. I wrote to the factory and asked about fit for the 2013. He said he was not sure and that they have not yet got around to trying it and agreed to send me a set to see if it fits. (no, not for free). I will post pics and sound vid once installed. What do you think? Like the look?

Other than that I like her stock. I might consider a racing compound tire for the rear. Twice I lost the back-end a bit coming out of a turns...but not enough to high-side of course. But the temp was only 45degrees that day. I know the stock tire is pretty sticky compared to other stocks, but I will know for sure on a day warmer than 75.

Well, whether a Harley is a pain in the b-hind in city streets depends on the rider. Most motor mounted cops can scrape the floorboards of their Road King in a figure 8 simply by looking deep into the turn, head up, while keeping pressure on the rear brake. This and other great riding techniques are taught in a DVD called "MOTO-MAN". He is a cop in Florida who sold thousands of this training aid. It helped me. But back on point...no question that the Ducati is easier in an urban setting as NextFriday is pointing out. In fact I pray for errands to run here DC / MD / NOVA area - the Ducati is perfect.

mszilves, I have power-commanders on two of my Harleys. I am trying to resist adding one to my M796...but now you got me thinking! I bet the additional response is noticeable. I know it was on a Street Glide. You can tell you are set up for racing, 41-tooth, shocks, and brake mods tell the tale there. (how about steering damper?) But I keep telling myself I don't need it for the street. Kind of like P90X. "I hate it...But I love it!"

Stick with an Italian exhaust ;) The V&H look nice in black.

I just put a Bitubo steering damper on, but haven't been able to really ride with it yet to dial it in. Looks sweet though !

Nice exhaust choice, I am very tempted to go with the same. I thought V&H had carbon but I guess I mistook the black finish as carbon.

These sound (from youtube videos) deeper than the mid pitch Termis, I love the angles of the cans.

Wait . . . the monster has a wind screen ?!

Larger screen? I recently bought a used one from a forum member and it works well enough. It's a Givi A780 (?) and although it is nothing like a full windshield it definitely takes the buffeting off my shoulders, which is what I was hoping for.
