Hey guys, its been a while since I've been on here but its good to be back. Ok, here is the situation. I learned ducati's on an '02 620, graduated to the S4, but because of me being stupid, sold them and have had a couple crotch rockets since. I have an r6 right now that I bought wrecked and rebuilt, but i just don't feel as comfortable on a rocket. There is a 1998 monster 750 for sale near me for 2600 OBO. He claims it rides great and looks even better, with 8xxx miles on it. I am looking for a monster to tinker with and hit the twisties with. I know the speed wont be what I'm used to but i might be growning out of that! so what do you think?

For that price it is hard to go wrong. I really enjoy my 2000 M750, and I think it would be a mistake for you not to pursue the 98 that you are looking at. Good luck with the purchase, post some pictures if you pick it up.

Well I looked at the bike tonight, but came home empty handed. It was not as nice as it appeared to be. Pretty greasy in the wrong places and a busted fork seal. But the granddaddy of it all was the gauge cluster. Glass was broken and the tach no longer worked. I had to replace a gauge cluster on my 620 and know what kind of a pain they can be (ordering from ducati, new key, programming). So I offered him lower and he wouldn't take it. Decent price, but needs to much work to make it a great deal!

Uhh Holy ****...
Is the guys name Matt buy any chance... He has a 300zx in the garage a f250 and a blazer or something in the drive way... And the Ducati is yellow? And he lives in centerville off 741..????
If so.. thats the same damn bike I looked at Monday night, and I drove it down the street. I didnt see the broken seal... I never had a problem putting a whole cluster set up on my buddies 750 last year. The only negative of the job was getting the part hah hah. Jesus man... What did you offer him..

No ****, thats the same guy. He seems like a straight shooter but I just dont want to pay that price on a bike that isnt that clean. I offered him 2 grand, low ball, but he didnt seem like he wanted to deal much. What did you offer? Where are you from? I live up in Fairborn and go to school at Wright State.

750 Monster

For future reference.....I would stick to a newer Monster If I were you , like a 620, 695, etc.... The price on the older Monsters may seem appealing, but the memories of my carburated 1999 M750 were not that great. The bike never seemed to warm up properly like a fuel injected bike....also the quality control issues were more evident.....several burnt rear brake bulbs , lots of vibration....and a horribly stiff clutch which made the bike a pain to ride in the city. I've ridden Sportbikes and Harleys and the clutch on the older Monsters is not nice to live with in stop and go traffic....Bike always ran hot and wasn't happy at slower speeds...also turning radius was poor.Tthe clutch on the 696 as well as everything else is definately something I would buy...go for newer technology if you can afford it.....You can't even buy a tractor like a Harley without fuel injection.... Do I still love Ducati's ....absolutely just not my old 1999 M750. Presently, I own a Honda 599 which ironically is made in Italy and when I took off the seat last week I noticed some of the electrical components had a Ducati stamp on them ....Go figure.

I offered him a little more... but this is my first bike and all, but I had my good friend come with me that knows a little more about bikes. I didn't seen the cracked seal, but I'll definitely look for it next time I go to see it, if I go to see it again. Thanks for that heads up though. Yeah I'm about to move into Maple View Apartments one the 21, and My wife and I also go to WSW and Work at BW3's hah hah. I don't know, I really want the Ducati, I mean I can fix it up no problem, they are not that expensive to get parts for. This being my first bike, I thinks its a good starter. My best friend has a 99' 750 has a few minor aftermarkets on it, and it fly's. I just want a Ducati to ride with him and have some fun and learn... Then Maybe next year I'll get something newer, with a bit more top-end.

I used to live in Maple View haha, I live on Chaple dr now, a mile away. Let me know if you get the bike. It would definately be a good starter and I think he will come down from 2600. I've got too many bikes in my garage right now to mess with it though. If you get it and need some help, PM me and I'll see what I can do. If not, i'm always looking for another person to ride with.

i like the carbed 750's
(and ive had at the same time a FI 620 and a FI 900 to compare it to....)

if the price is good enough to warrant making the repairs that might still be a good deal for somebody.
gauges on the 01-earlier bikes are not the nightmare of the 02+.
you can also easily use aftermarket gauges like the KOSO
bike also will respond well to some performance mods like hotter ignition coils, light flywheel and flat-slide carbs

haha, I wish I would have known that before I low balled the guy. I thought the gauge was as hard to replace as the one on my '02 620. I had to wait almost 2 months for it to come in from Italy. Oh well, nicodemusblasko, you will have to let me know when you get it done and when it gets warm we should hit up some of the swisties around here.

Sounds good man. TBH, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to motorcycles (I have my MSF scheduled for June), but, I have a goodly bit of love planned for the m750 and I'd love to just go riding sometime.

Sorry 'bout the luck sir. I went up there right after work on Wednesday evening (about 5:30pm was the meeting time) and bought it then and there.
