S2R front brake and suspension upgrade

I want to upgrade the 800's suspension and brakes, along with most of the other bits up front, but I'd like to do things in stages. The problem is that if I buy clip ons before doing the suspension upgrade, to say 848 forks, I'll have to repurchase clip ons at the 53mm size because the stock forks have 50mm. So keeping the list below in mind, what are my options and what parts are needed...

848 forks
848 calipers
848 rotors
Speedymoto upper and lower triple clamp
Rizoma Reserviors
Rizoma grips
Woodcraft Clip-ons
Puig shorty levers

1. Can I use the stock front wheel and wheel fairing with this setup?
2. Can I use the 848's upper and/or lower triple clamp until I get Speedymoto clamps? (looks like the upper one just needs the front part shaved off to fit) Can I use the stock lower clamp or the 848 stock lower clamp if I replaced the top?
3. Do I need to find the 848's master cylinder too because I want to eventually switch to Rizoma reservoirs? What do I need to convert from the coffins to the Rizoma reservoirs and can it be done with the stock master cylinder?
4. Will the Puig levers work with the stock setup and this setup?
5. Could I buy 53mm clip ons and triple clamps while I wait to collect the 848 parts and just use spacers/shims?

Some of this is for aesthetics and some is for performance, so don't hate on me for the choices, or say I should just drop 2k on Ohlins. I'd like to buy clips ons, then top triple clamp, then levers/reserviors/grips, then install the 848 bits, but if I can use the 848's triples then I'll buy the Speedymoto's last. My budget is not dirt cheap, but if I can do some tasteful upgrades and have it come in stages without back tracking, so that I am not over-spending or having to drop 2-3k all at once for all this stuff then that would be nice.

Subscribed to this thread as this is something I would also like to do to my 2008 S2R.

I've heard of going the less expensive route and finding some GSX-R front forks (or the likes of) but I want to keep the OEM Marchesini wheel. Not sure if that's able to be done, but I'm interested in the same thing as the OP.

Copatdi, you have the S2R1000 not the 800? Different set up. The 'k has fully adjustable Showa, which are a good fork. Getting them resprung, revalved plus properly set up would be a really good option. The 800 forks are stiff and non adjustable, and one of the let downs of an otherwise great bike. Not a problem on the 1000.

That's the top of mine. Mine have the DP adjusters on them, but you can adjust with a spanner and screwdriver

I guess they do have a little adjustment....I just didn't really see them because they're hidden really well under the factory handle bars. Thanks.

Just my opinion, but if I was thinking of going with larger diameter forks and clip ons, I would do it all at once, and get matching pieces. I wouldn't even consider something like 53 mm clip ons with 50 mm forks and some sort of spacer. If something goes wrong, it could strand you, or alot worse!

I had an Ohlins steering damper fail on a ride... managed to get to the side of the road without crashing. Can't imagine a clip on rotating when landing a wheelie or launching hard. I've had handlebars (not clip on's) move while on a ride, and it's not nice at all. The Ohlins damper was only a few weeks old, and just seized. Freak occurrence I think.

My opinion is to buy the clip ons for the size forks you plan on getting, and when funds allow get the forks, clamps, trees, etc..., and install them all together. As for the other mods, I can't say as I don't have the knowledge or experience.

Just my two cents.

Ya, but our clip ons are 50's so i'd have to buy them then when i got the forks buy the 53 clipons and that is the same for the triple clamps. the only way to break it up into stages is to buy the 50's triple clamp and machine it larger eventually and buy the 53 clip ons and use spacers in the mean time.
