Seems to me it would be easier to just use one of those new lightweight lithium batteries in the stock location and just eliminate most of that weight entirely.

I think that if you want to improve the weight distribution for better handling (which it could use), the best feasible answer is to switch to clip-ons and get your own weight further forward.
