Hey, I've been searching the threads for the info on swapping out a S2R seat (2006) for a Monster 620 seat to make the seat height lower.

Called a local dealer and they said Ducati doesn't recommend it.

Did I mis hear the info on this?

I know I can shave the seat (did it on my ninja 250R) but I was hoping to just purchase the 620 seat and keep the original stock seat.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!

I guess even I learn something new about our bikes...I had no idea they were even different part numbers. All the seats from 00-07 Monsters are interchangeable and I've never know some were higher/lower than others. Also can't imagine why it; "wouldn't be recommended" when raising the rear end a few mm, different profile tires, miniscule fork adjustments etc have a far more dramatic effect on the geometry of the bike.

My personal favorite "low" seat is the Corbin if you wanna spend the cash, otherwise you can do a Google search for "Moto Lady Ducati" and check out how she modified her stock seat. (Her blog is fantastic btw, I think you'll like it)

Anyway, the aftermarket seat companies make one size fits all Monsters seats, and people modify and swap out their stock seats all the time. In ten years of being a Monster lover, I've never once heard of bad things happening as a result.

Thanks rcmcfly,

I think the parts person at the shop was saying she didn't see any recommended seats that would swap out.... not that it would cause the moto to be unstable.

Shaved the seat... still touching on "toe". I'll check out aftermarket.

Jeff,
Thank you.
Yeah, I was wondering if she knew what she was talking about, since I had heard that you could swap them out.
Do you know off hand how much lower the 620 would be? At this point the stock seat has been shaved as low as I can get it really....

Haha! That's what I'm guessing.... thanks for the info. I really appreciate it.

Have you already reupholstered the seat now that it's been shaved? Happy with how it turned out? Is this bike a beater/commuter to you, or do you want it to be sexy? I can dig up some very good references for reworking the seat for you, and at a lower price than you might think. Just not sure if form is as important as function, or if having a bike you're comfortable on is the most or only important thing.

I found I went from the balls of my feet to a comfortable flat foot by using the Corbin. I'm 5"10.5 and have raised my rear end 20mm. Beyond modding your seat the only other thing I can think of that doesn't involve torches, grinders and welders is lowering your rear suspension. At that point you'll possibly want to make some adjustments to the front to compensate for the change in handling. Or you my like it. The bike will be a bit more planted/cruiser-ish but you'll be lugging it through the corners a bit more. Lots of info on suspension geometry on this board and how it's affected by changes in the rear ride height that's over my head.

I don't know how short you are, but I've heard of folks as short as 5'3" or so getting by happily simply by modding their seat.
