Ok so I just washed my bike and then it rained.

Now i have a couple of water spots and some specs of dirt on the tank and fenders. My quesition is can i use like a windex solution on the paint or will the harm the clearcoat.

I have done this before but ive always wondered if i should or shouldnt.

Any input would be great.....

For what it's worth, I have often used Purple Power (PepBoy's version of Simple Green) for a sort of spot cleaning or slight sponge bath. It helps me keep the tank and fairing clean without having to wash and dry the whole bike. I usually follow that with a light waxing or at least some detail spray.

I'm not saying it's good for it, I'm just saying I do it and I haven't seen any problems.....

i use meguiars final inspection or mothers showtime, spray on detailers, they lift bugs, water marks and other stuff fine and also bring a nice shine.i'm not sure how much wax or polish would be left after using household cleaners, they're usually a bit harsh on paint.but if you polish it regularly it should be o.k i guess.

I would use warm water to wipe it down with. I used to clean my helmet with Windex and the plastic vents disintegrated and fell out. I sent it to Shoei and they sent me a new one and told me not to use Windex on it. I use warm water to remove bugs and mineral spirits to remove tar, chain lube and brake dust. I use degreaser on the engine when I wash but I make sure it is safe on aluminum. Right now it is some orange stuff.

The worst thing for any finish is usually the piece of paper that's used to wipe it. Always wet your paint before cleaning. This acts as a lubricant to keep the dirt from scratching. Also use a cloth to wipe, not paper. Meguiars Final inspection is a great product.
