I’m a new member here and thrilled to find the site.

I’ve been riding this bike for 6 years. Today turn key on, all power on dash … hit start button, you can hear the starter engage for about 2 seconds then the power shuts off completely … after another 2 seconds all the power comes back on and the dash reads 0005.r.5W for a split second and then returns to the main screen with all lights and all power. Bike does not start. What’s going on here? Need some help.

Hey welcome!

That code usually means your battery doesn't have enough juice to start the bike. So we should diagnose along those lines.

First thing would be to make sure the battery's fully charged. You could always load test it at an automotive shop to see if it's healthy, but by the time you reach the darn thing you might be thinking to replace it altogether especially if it's been some time.

Also regarding batteries, OEM is Yuasa YT12B-BS. If you've been experimenting with alternative ones, you'll want to make sure the specs are met: voltage, amphours, cold cranking amps.

Next would be to check connections. You know, making sure they're snug & clean. There are a few: battery positive goes to the starter relay which then goes to the starter motor at the bottom of the bike; battery negative goes straight to ground, LHS side of bike, northwest corner of the alternator cover behind the plastic shroud. Follow the leads from the battery and it'll all make sense.

You'll want to check for any shorts along the way, maybe a cable is worn & rubbing against the frame, for example.

Hopefully this sorts it out. When you're done, I'd recommend upgrading the starter cables. Motolectric provide a kit, one of the best upgrades you can do.

Very good advice above, that error code is definitely battery/voltage related.

My money is on your battery being on the way out, but go through the checks @bopperoo has helpfully provided first and if you do have to replace the battery, spend the money on a genuine Yuasa rather than some off-brand.
