Alternate title : Read the damn owner's manual, all of it. ???

Have been unhappy with the daylight riding visibility of the LCD odometer/tripmeter/water temp/clock displays on my '02 S4.
(I think all monsters '02 and later have the LCD's, but I digress...)

Was reading the S4R manual, looking for something else, and...RIGHT THERE, IN FREAKIN' BLACK AND WHITE...

" Instrument panel lighting
Turn the key to ON and press (B) within 5 seconds to change instrument panel lighting power."

[--(B) being the right hand instrument panel button.--]

Now I can choose between Dim, Really Dim, and Starlight. :-/

Maybe I'm the only one who knows about it, and shouldn't have shared, just to be able to impress/annoy Monster Ducatisti in person.

Maybe I'm the only one who didn't know, and have only reached the bottom rung of the lowest common denominator.

As a service rep for a car company, I get that from PO'd customers all the time. It's either "nobody told me to read that", or "nobody ever reads those!"

They really are packed with useful info ;D

Disappointing, really, as I_did_read the manual.

I guess it's true, the memory is the third thing to go...

Herb,

I agree with you, but doesn't it really suck when you're trying to figure something out, and when you finally relent and read the manual/instructions (if you haven't thrown them out), and see how easy it was to find and go "DOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH!"

So true, in fact the acronym used in the computer biz is "RTFM", often muttered when some clueless person calls tech support for an easy answer.
RTFM?
