I've taken a few safety courses put on by the CHP and all cops said that riding with brights on is totally recommended.
There were even a few of them that said, "I even ride at night with my brights on."
This is why I chose to have the yellow for my brights.
IMO, 2 different lights is more visible than one.
It might not be the coolest, but it's safe.
It just got me thinking. I think we're so stuck on the visibility of how we see things vice being visible by others.
Actually, I've seen more people pull over to the side of the lane since I've put these yellow lights on. lol
So, maybe it's working??
