I have a right-hand carb, and need a left.

(look from the top down into the bell mouth with the bowl southside. if the idle mixture screw is on the left side, you have a lefty)

if the carb you are looking for is a flatslide, Mikuni only made right-hand versions (based on your description).

the roundslides VM comes in left and right-hand versions. some of the oem versions have that, but it would be specific to the bike (honda, kawa, etc)
