I wanted to accomplish 2 major things, #1, build some kind of simple bike stand with minimal parts, #2 , build a protective box around the bike where I don't have to worry about **** damaging it. I was able to satisfy both needs and then some.I started out with a crate from a bike shop and welded extra tidbits. The top is all stainless steel that just comes off with a few screws. I can stack all kinds of **** on top, whereas before, I had wasted space abovethe bike. I welded posts on opposite sides of my axle tube so I can put a rod thru the posts and axle tube and the bike stands up straight with just the rod( the red straps were there for when I was welding). I just pull a pin out from either side of the rod and slide the rod right out within seconds. I added 8 swivel casters on the bottom so I can wheel the crate around the garage to work on. The crate walls unbolt within minutes at all 4 corners. After the crate walls are removed, the bottom of the crate is used as a dolly. I just put the sides on just for storage purposes and picture taking. Later I plan to add a front triple lift so I can remove the front wheel for maintenance or whatever. Eventually, (whenever I figure it out) the crate bottom will be incorporated into a bike lift . What do you guys think? See what cold , boring, winter nights and a welder can do? [laugh]
