I got a dent in my tank, and now that I have to fix it, the bodyshops all say that they CAN do the "dark" flat black, but its not very durable, and that the stickers will start to peel off....

so they all recommend going black, but with a clear coat.

My question is.... What have you guys done? or have you changed the color of your tank? any pictures?

Do you feel that your new paint job is superior to your previous one?

I have... A couple actually.

The dark paint is thin and has a tendancy to scratch easily. Once scratched, the paint can peel away from that point with not too much effort.

I went for custom paint when I had the dent pulled from my tank, but if you really like the dark color, you can just add a couple of coats of clear and it should be pretty durable, but a bit shinier.

I painted a vespa with a 2 stage paint that was metallic black with a matt clear... not exactally like a dark, but pretty cool... House of Color can do lots to paint.

I'll bet you droped it as slow speed and the handlebars pushed against the tank!! I've seen a few dents in that area and thats what happened to me. Mine was red and I always thought it looked nice on the 916 but didn't suit the monster.. so I used the repair job as an excuse to paint it http://www.geocities.com/geoffrossi/monsta

I thought that Ducatis idea for the dark was that it was cheaper so people would just paint em their custom color..

That's right... I'm planning on getting mine repainted, just not sure which way to go yet. No dents either. Yet....
