I live 4 hrs from my dealer and am wanting to perform a lot of maintenance, repairs, and basic mods myself. Some have already been done the hard way! I have the 1100. Are there any specific Ducati tools/motorcycle tools that I should purchase? Any feedback is appreciated!

I think a chain adjustor is the the only 'specialized' tool you need for regular maintenance
(well, and a rear stand)
The Haynes manual is useful (even tho it isnt specific to your model)
desmotimes.com has lots of tool items

+1 on desmotimes.com. I find www.ca-cycleworks.com to be usefull too.

You have the latest models though. I haven't found any books or workshop manual regarding your model. Should hit the shelf soon enough though.

It would depend on what level of maintenance you plan to do.
First and foremost, get the factory shop manual. This also indicates the use of special tools, some can be done without them, others can not. The cost of 'tooling' is considerable.
