What ever happened to the Suzuki TL1000R ?

They were (in my opinion) killed by the combination of the recall to fit a steering damper and the bike journos all complaining about the odd rotary rear damper. Between those two things it seems the buyers stayed away in droves... A pity, they are a fun bike to ride - at least when sorted right, a friend of mine had one that made 132RWHP (minor air box mods, full exhaust, and re-tuned FI - up from 124 when he got it). He also did the hydraulic clutch conversion, race-teched the forks, and fitted an Ohlins rear shock (normal style, not the Suzuki rotary one). He said the stock shock was fine up until you started running hot laps on the track where it'd overheat, and he often ran it without the steering damper. I rode it both before and after the mods, and loved it both ways. What I didn't like about it was how Suzuki seemed to somehow manage to make a V-twin that felt almost as wide as a big inline 4... The chunky frame wrapped around the motor and the big side mounted radiators made it feel abot 10 times wider than my Monster...

The SV1000 seems more to be a successor to the TL1000S to me, not quite as serious an attempt at a "V Twin Superbike" as the TL1000R was... Kinda like an S4R compared to a 999...
