I'm going to buy the Vanson Mark 2 CSRX jacket and I need some recommendations on the armor. Vanson has the "Street Armor", "GP Armor" and the "CE Armor". Anyone have experience with these? I mainly ride local city and some canyons.
Vanson street or CE armor is prob all you need. CE is multi layer foam, good choice for street. GP armor is foam and hard plastic. From what I was told when shopping for a Vanson jacket, the GP will significantly change the fit of the jacket. May need to take that into consideration when sizing.
I wear the street armor and feel protected. I tried on some Vanson jackets with the hard plastic armor and had to go a size larger to accomodate it. In the end I felt that I got a much snugger fit with the street armor in a smaller jacket.
The hard plastic stuff will definitely change the fit of the jacket.
Street armor for me (shoulder and elbow / forearm) with the back protector (more like their gp armor). I do just ride on the street and the input I had on their gp armor was that it wasn't as comfortable (obviously). So I was willing to trade the extra protection for comfort.
I only had one off where I body checked a dirt road shoulder (not even any abrasion to the jacket) so I can't really say I crash tested it. I would think either their CE or Street armor would be good for most riding.
Thanks for the reccomendations. I went with the street armor. Looked good and like monkey1boy1 said the back protector has plates and looks kinda like gp armor.
i have the street armor in a CSRX 2 pro-perf and it's great. i argee with LT with the smaller jacket with softer armor is more comfortable and inspires more confidence than a bigger jacket with bulkier armor.
i love my vanson - the full sleeve liner is great and i can wear it with other jackets.
... don't forget, if you have the "soft" armor (or the one that's CE rated), you'll have to replace the individual parts that end up taking a pretty major impact (around 30 mph or more). Those parts are considered 1-use only.
