I have noticed noise coming form horizontal cylinder. It seems to become louder all the time.
I removed the valve covers to measure clearances. As I rotate the engine there is loud noise when valves are starting to close. Is this normal? Bike is M800S (-03).

Sounds like bad news.
Check if the cambelt hasn't slipped a tooth. The piston might be hitting the valves.

anyone adjust the valves lately?
new belts?

if you are worried do a leakdown test on the bike and then double check
cam timing
valve clearences

make sure the basics are good then think of things like fin ringing

cheers

Thank you for your comments opwierde and ducvet.

I have been told that 10000km maintenance was done, but I don't have any documentation about it. Bike has now 13000km.

I will check the belts. Valve opener clearances seems to be very tight. Could this be the cause?

If the closer clearance is too tight you could have binding and noise.
You can remove the belt and rotate the valve train by hand with the piston at BDC for a better idea where the problem is.

I think that I found the problem.

Front pulley (gear) is really loose. I hope that it has not destroyed anything.
Factory manual says that you should allways replace the lock nut with new one.
If it gets loose it will cause serious engine damage.

I will try to find tool to tighten the nut (and order new lock nuts).
