I know this is probably a "tired" subject, but I did a search and couldn't find what I needed, so. . . I've got my Haynes Manual and several internet resources with varying valve clearance specifications on 2 v motors, and I've heard of new looser Ducati specs. What is the current thinking with regard to valve clearance specs and tolerances? I had a Ducati Tech tell me yesterday the the last time he was at Ducati School they were telling techs that the range is .005-.015 on all Ducati valves (2v, 4v, intake and exhaust). I had the valves adjusted (heads off the bike) and they came back at .003 on the openers and .006 on the closers all round. Is this within tolerances/specs?

I just did my valves on my M900, year 2000 bike, and the Ducati site says the openers should be .004 on the intake and .005 on the exhaust.

Checked my valves last night used the following as a guide:

We had a valve checking party three of us checked the valves and three of us got different results... however all were within clearances specified on the above link. I had an easy time with the check because my bike is completely destructed at the moment.

not hard to be "in spec" with those kinds of allowances!! hmmm, take off valve cover... is there a dent on the valve cover? no? ok, put back on, not need adjustment. ;D ::)
