If you are blowing the 40a fuse you have a hard short to ground. First, check all connections for proper polarity. The 40a fuse feeds either your v reg or your start relay. Check very carefully your connections to your battery, start relay and to your starter. This is where I suspect the problem lies. Either get a meter or start the process of elimination by disconnecting your start relay and VR and see if it still blows your fuse. The latter process might require many fuses, and might add to the issues by electrically loading something that isn't supposed to be, so be warned.

thank you.for the input . i was diggin in my garden yesterday and it came.to.me i went to my bike and checked the wires coming from fuse to battery and low and behold they where grounding on a.head bolt . i guess they wore the wireing harness icer the years .....so that problem is fixed....now it seems.i still have a charging problem which i dont understand it got.a brand new stator ,vrr, battery and starter.selionid and starter . it runs great for awhile then peters out as the battery dies . i charge it up and it screams for a few days then kaput ...very frustrating everythin works but the horn so i isolated a short in those wires fixed and again same .......
