what is the difference (besides paint and price) between the dark model and the standard model of monsters?

The S has an Aluminum Swingarm, nose fairing and seat cowl, and on the 1000, adjustable suspension.

The darks bars are slightly lower as is the seat, you don't get any of the CF parts and there is no windshield. The levers are not adjustable.

must be an after '01 thing then, comparing my '03 800 dark to the '01 900S, his bars sit about 1 -2 " higher than mine.

My '03 Dark doesn't have the rubberized footpegs. They stopped that after last year.

is all this really worth the extra 500? i kinda had my heart set on the matte silver tank too

Get the S model...The upgrades in the suspension, the color of the frame and wheels are worth the extra $$. I would not buy the Dark again with non-adjustable suspension. Now I am looking for new forks and shock.....those two are worth much more than the price difference. Not to mention the carbon bits.
