I went to Motorcycle City to check the price of shims, and they want $20 per shim, and my old ones! Does that seem like a rip to anyone else? That could cost me $160 at worst case!

Yep - thats a rip. Mike at Gowanlochs points you at the cupboard full of shims and says "find what you need and swap them for what you've got". For free... He's good like that...

I think I paid 10-15$ last time.. you may get away with just buying the closers (if needed) and sand the opener down with some 400 wet n dry on a bit of glass

I could probably fly to and from gowanlochs for cheaper than buying them from MC City. Bloody rip off merchants, I only go there if I really have to.
