S4Rs - Termignoni 50mm DP Kit Behavior Questions?

3662 Views 30 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  Jake82
Just had the full system installed last week. Been having too much fun on it to post about it until now, especially with the unreal weather we've been having in Chicago... ;D

Ever since the installation:

- headlight does not immediately turn off when ignition key is turned to Off position. It stays on for maybe 5 seconds and then goes out. Is this normal? Did not think the new ECU would cause this behavior.

- at what temp does the radiator fan turn on? 216F? With the cooler weather (high 50F), coolant temp only reached ~ 215 in stop/go holiday shopper traffic but I did not see the fans go on.

- Fuel mileage seems to have gone down slightly. I can get maybe 110mi in city/highway commuting before low fuel light comes on but noticing only about 90 or so. Could be the winter blended fuel here in the Midwest...

- Less heat radiates onto left leg/thigh. No more catalytic converter. A good thing in hot weather. Miss it in 40F weather. :)

Bottom line is this not inexpensive modification is fun. I have to admit, it's louder than I expected but the ability to insert the "dB Killer" baffles fairly quickly will come in handy...

Too bad it's going to be winter again with highs in the 30s this coming weekend...

What did you wind up paying, since I'm looking into the same system? Best price I found so far was $2,200 from my local dealer. Not cheap by any means.
No, it is not inexpensive but it does, at risk of sounding cliche, transform the bike.

My dealer gave me ~ 10% discount, so I got it for under $2100 + $200 install + tuning (3 hours of labor total.

My only gripes so far is slightly reduced fuel range (although it could be the winter fuel in my neck of the woods) and there is also some of the fitment issues noted by others. The pipes are not perfectly parallel when viewed at certain angles and you can tell the canisters are not perfectly aligned in the downpipes.

None of this matters once everything is installed and fueling setup is in the ballpark. The first time you roll on the throttle hard and hear that sonorous basso thunder coupled with racous intake honk, you will probably think to yourself it was money well spent. :p
cheapest I found was $1995 shipped from a Ducati dealership. Let you know if you're interested.

Headlight thing is wierd. No idea. Sorry.

Fans kick on somewhere around 215ish (218?) or so on mine and hold bike at 220 in traffic in July.

90 or so before fuel light is common for me. Varies between 80 and 100 depending on how I ride.
Headlight issue as Statler put it.. weird, get it seen to by your dealer!

I get an average between 90-100miles or so before reserve.

Enjoy your bike!
Thanks guys for your responses! In retrospect, I should have done this the day I bought the bike...

Sorry, not the best pic but...

Tam,

How did your kit fit the bike. Did the brackets line up so that the pipes looke like they do in your picture or was it a mess. I ended up making my own bracket. even the upgraded part from Ducati didn't help. you're right, they're not cheap but the sure do work well.

Mine also does the headlight trick. I kinda like it.

Mike
What is this upgraded part? The bracket?

Alignment appears to be in the ballpark and dealer made no mention of anything out of the ordinary during the install even though I specifically mentioned/asked about the fitment & alignment issues the system apparently has.

The dealer has a demo S4Rs outfitted with it so mine wasn't their first S4Rs 50mm Termi job...

I kinda like the headlight "trick" too... I was taken aback at first but hearing about it from another owner is nice reassurance.

Cheers.
If I recall correctly Termi released an uh-oh part about a month after they released the kit to market. There was enough complaint about fitment that they couldn't blame it on bad installers and owned up to the mistake. Kits that are sold these days probably just come with the 'new' bracket.

What tuning needs to be done. I was under the impression, since it came with another ECU to match the package... that tuning would not be needed. Any input is appreciated.

Sent you a PM.
saw another S4Rs in Gainesville with the headlight thing after Termi kit installation. No explaination, just did it.

If you are interested, I've got a few of these in stock. I can beat $2200 as well [thumbsup]

There is still need for a bit of tweaking, particularly CO & idle trim, to optimize it. The replacement ECU alone probably does not fully account for differences between bikes.

There are a bunch of threads about this. LA, ShadowChaser & Statler, et. al will likely have more information on baseline trim adjustments with the Termi kit.

Cool, thanks for the info. [thumbsup]
Beautiful color choice Tam 212!!! [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [clap] [clap] [clap]

That's the first I've heard of the headlamp delay during shutdown. :-\

90 to 120 to the reserve average, but it can be done in 75 also. >:D [laugh]

BTW: The Corse Slipper Clutch Rocks just as hard as the full Termi System! ;D 2nd Best Mod to my Rs to date! [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
Thanks SHADOWCHASER.

Yes, during a trip to Georgia in October, I had the fuel light come on at ~ 85mi. That was with a stock bike... long legs she ain't got, that's for sure.

Dare I ask how much the DP Slipper Clutch costs?

:p
excellent choice on the colour!

any sound clips of it on your bike yet?
Yes, like the others have said the upgraded part was a new upper bracket. It still didn't fit. The pipes were in no way parallel to each other using the ducati parts. I should've taken it back but I wasn't about to put the OEM stuff back on. I have a friend with some cool tools so making a new bracket was no biggie. I think the real problem is more with the location of the holes in the canister than with the bracket itself.
