My front brakes are making groaning noises , not scraping(yet). They have 9k miles on them, I am a moderate sport rider (no stoppies, 8k+ front tire life)

Question: how long do the front pads last? Give me a range? They have been groaning since I did a small dip in the dirt. (no damage to the bike, forks, handlebars,etc.)

When I had the 18,000 mile service done on my M900, I asked the mechanic to check the front pads and he said they were still good for a while, even though they were original.

Brake pads aren't that expensive. If you're not sure, just replace them.

My front tire life is consistantly 6K miles. I've got 11K miles on the S4 (original pads) and plenty of life left in them. That being said, Scott is right.....pads are cheap.

I sold my calipers with 12,000 miles on them and the OEM pads still looked good. One thing to stay alert to is the rotors. They are prone to warp. Pretty common. I went through two pair.

Get some good Ferodo or Carbone Lorraine pads. The OEM pads are not that great. You'll be happy you made the upgrade.
