I am going to remove and paint my generator cover. I wanted to know if the special tool mentioned in the shop manual below is necessary or if you can get the piece off safely without it.

If anyone has any experience and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Painted the clutch cover and the other side last year and it looks awesome- I just want it to match.

Hex key. Keep in mind that oil will spill out, so might want to time it with an oil change.

Resurrecting this as I just got a 05 S2R and want to powder coat the generator cover and the clutch cover on the other side.

Only reason I've been hesitant is I don't want to purchase that special tool Duc requires in the manual. So can you confirm you got yours off WITHOUT that tool?

Trick

I made my own, very simple if you have the tools.

There is another way which I have used several times... and it's free.
This method uses the push rod to release the case.

1. Remove all the bolts around the case

2. Remove the slave cylinder

3. Remove the bolt beneath the cylinder to the case

4. Attach the cylinder again

5. Give the clutch lever a few pumps until it breaks loose

6. Pull the case the rest of the way manually

Done.
