I am still trying to get to know my "new" 2006 M620. It still has warranty, with only 3100 miles.

Today, while in the garage, I noticed that when I hit the brakes, the brake light brightens, but when I let off the brakes, the light remains bright. After turnng off the engine and then back on, the light goes back to normal, then when I hit the brakes, it brightens (as it should) but remains bright even after letting off the brakes. (Obviously, I didn't ride anywhere.)

Does anyone know why this is so and what can be done?

check the switches, there is one behind the lever and one right under the foot pedal. Sometimes the switch doesn't pop back in and keeps the light on...

Motogpfan, are they mechanical, position type, or a pressure switch sensing the hydraulic pressure?

I just checked the switches motogpfan is referring to. I'm not very mechanical-smart, but what I've discovered is that when the front brake lever is pulled, you can hear a subtle click, and when the lever is released another click can be heard. (Must listen within a quiet environment.)

The problem (I discovered) is when the front lever is pulled, a click can be heard, but when released, the click cannot be heard and the tail light remains bright. However, when I jiggle the two wires leading out from the little plastic housing behind the front brake lever (where the "click" seems to originate), the second click is heard and the bright light returns to normal (running light). It looks like a mechanical position-switch device (but not sure). What can cause this sticking?

Had a similar problem with my front brake switch. Started working again after fiddling with it for a while. Careful not to lose the tiny mounting screws and there's a little pin that activates the switch. Mine had some sort of crap on it that I was able to clean off. Repositioned the switch to activate/deactivate propperly. Found a link with a Radio-Shack part # to save some $$$ if the switch does need replacing.

The front switch is very slightly adjustable.

Loosen the two screws and move it away from the lever.

There is also a small actuating dowel that can stick in the housing.

A quick shot of silicone spray will cure that.

Ducpainter, I will try your advise. What is interesting is that this actuator is stuck more often when the electrical system is turned to "on." When the key is in the "off" position, however, it didn't stick nearly as bad. Can a "hot" system cause this??

Ignition switch on power to directionals, possible sticking from arcing. Ignition switch off no power to directionals, no sticking from arcing. Highly unlikely, but possible.
