Pin that holds gearshift pedal won't tighten

679 Views 11 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  dhc22
Had an unfortunate low-speed drop that bent the pedal, I was able to straighten the pedal out and ride it home, but it did feel noticeably loose. Upon inspection of the assembly in the garage I noticed the pin was loose, so I tried tightening it, with no luck.

  • The pin threads are not stripped.
  • attached are some pics.
Am I sort of screwed and will be needing the entire L.H. FOOT PEG HOLDER PLATE? I'm thinking the thread on the plate assembly is stripped.

Just getting advice from the more knowledgeable folks here that may have run into this before.

BTW this is my first Ducati.
I did search for this issue first before posting.
There was no 821 section so I posted it here, if I need to post elsewhere in the forum please let me know.

Thank you all in advance!

If it's threaded I'd probably look at a helicoli or timesert etc rather than replacing the whole bracket.

Thanks for this suggestion! Looking for specs on the pin for correct sizing is going to be fun.
99% sure it's M8 x 1.25, see if you can find a bolt that size and compare the threads.
I've done tons of Heli Coils and that would be an easy job since the housing is aluminum which makes drilling with the special drill bit a piece of cake. No need for a Time Sert or other stronger thread repair for this application.

Thanks!, Going to the hardware store today and get the sizing done. You would think Ducati would put the specs somewhere online.

Thank you for confirming, never knew this product existed until I posted my problem here, . What was odd to me is that perhaps the pedal may already be loose which contributed to the threads stripping, I do have high-ish miles. 12500.

I dropped the bike on the side by removing the paddock stand too quickly like an idiot, I had R&G aero frame sliders, in my opinion, it was not that severe to strip out the mounting threads. oh well. lesson learned.

Make that 100%, it was M8 x 1.25! But it looks like the bolt also has flat threads so I'll order that as well. Thanks again!

I've got the same sliders and I think if I didn't have the rear axle sliders I'd have broken mine off as well. The large rear axle sliders and the frame sliders give just enough clearance to protect the shift lever.

Thanks, I think that's what I'll have to do. Which one did you get?
Meant to update this sooner, the Helicoil absolutely did the trick, thanks @cs363! I almost ordered the entire pillion assembly haha. RIde safe!
