I had a strange thing happen last night. The bike is a 96 m 900. I rode home from work, about 10 miles and parked the bike. About 2 hours later started up the bike to go to the store. About a half mile into the ride to the store I was at a stop light. Once I started to accelerate from the light the Oil Warning light flashed on for about 1 second or less and then turned off. Freaked out I pulled over and checked the oil through the viewer and it looked a little low but still with in guide lines. Drove to the store and home and the light did not come back on.

Any thoughts on this?

Although the bike is not due for an oil change for another 1500 miles I am planning to do it today just to see if I notice anything.

It could likely be one of two things:
1) Intermittent short in the harness somewhere between the connector on the oil pressure sensor/switch and the indicator light that just happened to touch briefly and light up the indicator.

2) More seriously - early indication of marginal or fluctuating oil pressure.

That happened to me right after the 600 mile service... the oil light flashed on, and went off again. On a hard acceleration...

I checked the level and it was on the waaaaay low side. For whateve reason, the dealer chose to use the bottom limit of the range to stop filling the oil...

I topped it up and it's been fine ever since. No lights, no loss of oil, etc.

I have an '02 620 that I got about 2000 miles ago.

Found the problem. Looks like oil was leaking from the filter it must have shaken itself loose which caused the level to go down. I changed the oil last night and think the issue is resolved.
