This is already covered in the oil FAQ on this site, but just a reminder, use the specific crush washer for the oil screen and not the oil drain one interchangeably. The oil screen one is thicker.

I used to use the same one, and the last time it got all mangled and I was dripping everywhere I went until I found the time to replace it, which also entailed throwing away a quart of perfectly good oil (I clean my pan with WD40 and didn't want to reuse oil I collect in it). Besides, who likes messing with oil. Just use the right washer.

An additional reminder: Be careful not to let the crush washer slip down towards the threads from where it seats at the end of the screen. I did this on my last oil change and noticed the screen turned too far after initial contact at the washer without snugging up. I bent down and looked at a new washer sticking out a little at the bottom and thoroughly mangled where I tightened it as it was wedged between the shoulder of the screen and the seating surface on the crankcase - Dooohhh!!! :-[
