Can anyone recommend a good oil pressure gauge to replace the factory sending unit on my '98 M600?

Welcome to the board.
Are you looking for a replacement sender, or are you looking to add an actual gauge?
Yeah, an actual gauge on the side cover, chopper style. I've seen some for older Jap bikes that would probably work, just not sure of threads, adapters, etc.

PM hiero on the board. He had to make an adapter for his due to a stripped thread issue. I'm sure he could tell you what the thread is.

not bad for $15 [thumbsup]
does anyone know if there's a relatively simple way to use something like this on the "ie" bikes and still keep the oil pressure idiot light working on the stock gauge cluster? it would be nice to have a way to see the oil pressure all the time rather than removing the stock sensor to check the pressure during maintenance intervals, AND still have the idiot light come on if sumpthin's wrong
I'm pretty sure the thread is M10x1.

You could get an adapter fitting to thread in, and run a hard line somewhere to hide the pressure switch and then run a line to the gauge wherever you wanted.

I would think that Aeroquip or Earl's have a fitting.
The thread is indeed M10x1.0. However, you can thread into that a 1/8NPT fitting w/o issue. I have an oil pressure gauge on my Coup D'etat using a 1/8NPT fitting.

As far as retaining the stock sender goes, I suppose you could use a double-male fitting and then a 1/8NPT T-fitting (all ends female) and then thread in your gauge and your sender. Might get a bit too tall for the small amount of threads used to support all that, but....maybe not...

If anyone's interested, I'll post up a pic tonight.
I suppose you could make a 1/8-27 NPT pipe thread work but don't plan to put a proper 10x1.0 mm sensor back in the hole after you do that.
A 1/8-27 NPT thread measures 10.29mm dia and .94 mm pitch.
I'm going to machine a proper adaptor to take both the sensor and the switch for my ride.
Surprised somebody doesnt make this part.
I like to watch oil pressure as an early warning sign.
All low oil lights do is tell you when your engine is cooked.

thanks for the shout DP [thumbsup]

looks like the good folks have taken care of you here 0jess! I'd take a look at dakinebusa's thread on his gauge solution while you're at it too

Went w/ the $15 ebay special, applied a little hi-tack to the threads, screwed it right in. perfect fit. Screw the factory sending unit, wires are bad. >:D
