Yes, if you need the MSF certified course, you have to do that through the military. Basically you need that card to get your stickers to get on base. (I'm assuming you're military, otherwise the state course will do fine for the insurance discount.) Furthermore, you need those stickers to get your bike on any post---PH, Hickam, KBAY, etc. Even Tripler where I work is considered a post so you can't get on without them.
Also, to get on base you need to be wearing gloves, long sleeves, boots, and a reflective vest. If you have a backpack it needs reflective material as well. Most people use their PT belt or a cheap jogging vest over the pack.
The army is a bit stricter than the Navy. In the Army you have to be "checked out" on the specific bike you intend to take on base. Also in the Army, a motorcycle cannot take a space designated for a car. At Tripler, for instance, there are designated motorcycle parking areas, whereas at PH there are none.
As a contractor, I went through the ringer to get those damn stickers, so PM me if you have any additional questions.
eh? since when? I got the MSF card from the basic class at LCC... twice, in fact. the last time there were a bunch of army/AF riders who needed to take that class on their own bikes so they could ride on base, and I was able to reg my bike at pearl w/my card.
LCC is in a weird place right now...last I heard, they snoozed and just recently lost their MSF accreditation. Yet they still can hand out test waivers....go figure.
And since it looks like everyone is online right now...
Are we a green light for the 12th?
My understanding is that the state program lost its MSF sponsorship a few years ago. When I got my "replacement card" from them when I moved back, the symbol looked like the MSF symbol, but if you look closely, it's not. And they definitely did NOT take that card at Tripler. But, like I said, the Navy is a bit more leniant than the Army.
BTW, I now have 3 cards, the state BRC, the MSF ARC, and the Army certification PLUS I got this cool medal/coin looking thing for being the most improved student that day. (I dunno if that's good or bad, but there were some folks there that should NOT be riding 100HP sportbikes!)
a-HA! [cheeky] and pearl has plenty of MC parking... by the CIA, anyway... makes me wish I rode to work

The Hawaii Motorcycle Safety Education Program is a Hawaii Department of Transportation Approved Motorcycle Rider Education and Safety Program that leads to the issue of a licensing waiver.
I'll have my side panels off and ready to ride. Man, if I can get off this website, I can get around to ordering those adapters I need for the CRG LSes I've had in my drawer for forever!
yeah, my brackets should be in tomorrow... all that's left is a trip for some DOT4, and possibly some new grips while I'm at it... ah, crap. still gotta fig out how to bypass that kill switch for the 'stand
Hey guys, thanks for all the info again. I already have a motorcycle endorsement on my driver's license, so I am not too worried about the testing waiver. And I already have the insurance discount through a safety course that I took through ADAC in Germany, but none of the bases here will accept it to get on post since the certificate is issued in German. So with that in mind I guess I will call either the motor vehicle reg office at Pearl (I work there) or at Hickam (I am in the chair force) and see when they can hook me up. From what was said earlier, it sounds like getting schedule at the course on Hickam will be a bit easier. Anyhow, hope to see you guys on the road soon!

I was wonderin' how her bike was doing... and btwn the airbox chop and the remus, how is she not running lean???
the great search god says it's an easy fix... I just need to find the, er, relay... or whatever. I read someone used a paperclip to macgyver his switch.
hey, I'm a fabricator, not a fix...it...ator. : and anything electrical, you might as well be speakin' french at me.
lol Thanks for that! A Ducati is definently in my future, I just have to decide which one. I am going to meet Chad on Sunday to take two of them for a ride and then decide. Prudence tells me to get the 695, but lust tells me to get the 800. ;D
FWIW, the power numbers are probably quite similar btwn the two (don't know 'em off-hand), so you're pretty much looking at SSS/shotguns vs. DSS/normal exhaust... and, y'know, color choices.

Yea, plus the fact that the 695 will be cheaper to insure, and most likely gets better fuel efficiency. Now if only I could get a custom spec'd 695 with the 800's sss.
