I have a 2005 S4R with the solid white wheels. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to put solid white wheels on a motorcycle is an idiot, but that is a topic for another time. Today I was cleaning my wheels with a degreaser. I happened to use a new red shop rag with the degreaser to clean the wheels and that combination of red shop rag and degreaser turned my wheels a nice shade of pink.

I was in a state of complete panic. No amount of rubbing was removing the pink from the wheels. I tried spraying more degreaswer on the wheels, WD-40, soap and water, Windex, Simple Green, some Orange Cleaner. My wheels were the cleanest that they have ever been but they remained pink, and since I'm not Steven Tyler this was a major problem.

Finally I used straight bleach and that removed the pink shade from the wheels. If this ever happens to you, straight Clorox Bleach will restore the whiteness to your wheels.

I hope you took pictures of it! LOL [laugh]
Taking pictures of that mess was the farthest thing from my mind. I just kept thinking to myself "This can't be happening to me!"
so degreaser bleeds the dye from new shop rags, and applies it directly to my paint...

good to know. i'll try and avoid this situation. [laugh]
But Honey, I HAVE to buy BSTs now because I can't ride around on PINK wheels!

Good rmeinder for when I get around to cleaning the wheels (now greyish).

Chris
Try using a mild polish or very fine rubbing compound. You could also try a white towel and some acetone.
whoever thought of marketing those red shop towels, is the idiot.

a similar thing happened to me!
The beautiful grey carpet of my old '90 Wolfsburg GTI.
(which is now long gone)
i was using plain old soap n water + the stupid red shop towel.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll be throwing the red towels out tomarrow,or maybe in the wash with bleach.. [thumbsup]
Now that they are clean as a whistle, wax 'em. Cleanin' will be a lot easier next time. Late, S...
