I recently acquired a 2007 S4RS and I love it!
Happy to be a part of a community of awesome riders with such a wealth of knowledge of them!
I look forward to learning everything I can about riding and this Monster Machine!

Coolest Monster ever.
Had a 2008 S4RS Tricolore (after 696, S2R800, S2R1000) for about two years, never put enough miles on it to justify keeping it.
Every time I rode it, my license was in imminent jeopardy. And 27 mpg didn't help matters much. Sure was fun, though.
My current 2012 Multistrada is about 1/3 as beautiful, but I ride it a lot more...still license in jeopardy, but at least I can ride it at 5/10ths (most of the time).
I still have a spare red S4RS tank, seat cowl and Termi slip-ons and a Sargent seat; if you can use them shoot me a pm and I'll make you a deal.

Almost bought an S4Rt in Mar/Apr this year, so almost had the opportunity to put those parts to use....
Fortunately (or unfortunately) I have three running bikes and three project bikes, so garage space is always at a premium.

27mpg... us gallon is smaller than the imperial gallon, so this isn't a direct comparison, but:
When I got it, 42 mpg (imperial gallons)
After CO tune for stutter, surge and popping, 36 mpg
After chip flash and DYNO tune (not a "canned" flash), 50 mpg.
I totally love this bike.

If I could have gotten anywhere near 50 mpg with my Termis and open airbox, I would still own that S4RS. Even Imperial gallons.

Not saying I don't believe you, but I have never seen anyone approach that number with any Ducati. My air-cooled bikes, ridden moderately, might on occasion get 45 mpg.

My current 1200 Multi can, when ridden very gently, do 40 mpg...on the freeway. Made it 200 miles exactly twice...sweating bullets each time.

Commuting, with light throttle, is more like 34-36. Again, Termi kit. And that reflects pretty much exactly what I read on every Ducati forum I am a member of (four at last count).

It's not US gallons. Imperial gallons are 4.54 litres. US gallons are 3.78 litres.

Highway too. I don't bother calculating urban. I live in a rural area.

Before flash and dyno tune, probably the same as you, if you convert the figures. I notice that most ppls seem content with the DP chips or the "canned" tunes, and not many are keen enough to get a proper dyno tune.

Converted figures:
"When I got it, 35 mpg (US gallons)
After CO tune for stutter, surge and popping, 30 mpg
After chip flash and DYNO tune (not a "canned" flash), 41.63 mpg."

Plains freeway, no hills.
My air cooled 1100 Evo ABS does slighly less.

Today's ride with Queensland Ducati Club, mixed mountain roads and freeway, 212.6 kilometres, 11.61 litres of fuel, 18.3 kilometres per litre, 51.69401 miles per imperial gallon, 43.04427 miles per US gallon.
Only mods: Arrow Race pipes (no cat) and SC Project Oval R60 / Carbon Fibre muffler, ECU Flashed, Dyno-tuned.
