Well, I took the plunge:

http://www.acrimonious.net/~hall/duc.jpg

2000 Monster 750.. D&D Pipes, CF Fairing, Corbin Seat.. 6500 miles..

Gotta bring it in to get the valves checked.. but I plan on doing most other stuff myself.. Which repair manual do people recommend?

Also, I need to replace the rear break pad, it squeeks a bit when breaking.. more annoying that fuctional.. but I figure it won't hurt to replace it.. is that pretty easy?

To change the rear brake pads:
  • Pull the clip off of the pin holding the two pads in place.
  • Remove the pin.
  • Pull the pads out.
  • Keep track of that other metal piece that is in there.
  • Wedge the calipers back out of the way.
  • Put in the new pads and put it all back in place.
  • Carefully break in the new pads.
  • Wonder if you just wasted your money, because they still squeak. ;)

Do the valve check yourself.. it is very simple.. then if they need adjusted leave it apart and trailer it to the shop to save some man hours...they will probably check fine at 6K ... the newer ones don't tend to get out until after 12K.. every time you bring it to a shop they tend to adjust them back to factory setup even thought they may be within the specified clearances. checkout Ducatisuite for the knowhow.. read it completely then about halfway into it you will actually understand what he is talking about and what you are looking for!
