Hey guys, I just picked up a new Monster and figured this would be a great place to start hanging out. I'm also over at a small DC local board called monkeyriders.com. My name is Alex and I'm from Potomac but I currently live in Baltimore. My time is spent roughly 50/50 between the two.

I guess we'll do this first...
2002 Monster 750 S

Pros:
It's pretty
Well maintained (I hope)
It's pretty
It's pretty

Cons:
Tail was stolen from previous owner
No turn signals
Seat likes to pop loose
Left switch cluster is loose
Loud and stubby exhausts (I'm not a fan of the cut cans)
Not any faster than my last ride (Ninja 500)

Anyway, winter plans are to get it legal, inspected and tagged for MD, find some suspension settings for me, take care of the loose bits and to repalce the short cans with a high mount (maybe an S2R or S4R refit).

I am sure you will fit right in...... Do a search on the board about maryland inspections so you can ensure you have everthing covered. dc

As far as getting it how you like it - if you want to go with stock replacements you shouldn't ahve to pay much at all - especially w/ the turn signals. People nearly gvie away the stockers. And stock cans shouldn't cost too much either.

Fitting up the shotguns from an S*R might be a bigger project than you'd think... but I'm not sure of all the issues that might be involved.

Welcome. There are a few of us in Baltimore but we're not as well organized about going out regularly as the DC crowd (I think it's because we have other friends ;D)

Where do you usually ride (now that it's getting too cold)

Silver Spring rider here....nice to see you are serious and wear gear!...also...nice Senna 750 BTW!....speed is not how fast on the clock you can get it...but more of how you can use it!...trust me...that Monster will be faster than the EX500 once you get comfy with how to twist her!....maybe get to a track day or few and see!

Anyway, when I'm in Baltimore, I ride San Martin Drive a lot. It's right behind Hopkins and is 2 blocks from where I live. Probably the only really twisty road I've found in Baltimore thus far. It's a little too short but because Hopkins owns it, it's well lit and very smooth. Otherwise, I'll ride up Harford up past 695. When I'm in DC, I'm usually riding around the Macarthur or Glen area. Look forward to giving you guys a wave. Probably when it gets warmer. I rode this weekend to pick up the bike in Springfield VA on Saturday and again to North Potomac on Sunday. I'm pretty sure my hands will suffer permanent damage if I do that too much.

XiaoNio, I had some big issues with my seat unlatching when I bought my bike new. I'm sure you won't, but don't ride the bike until you fix this! My seat unlatched and slid out from under me in a slow turn

In any event, the fix is easy. unbolt the hardwar that connects the peg that goes into the spring loaded latch from the seat. when you bolt it back on, put a couple of thick washers between where the peg mounts to the seat. this will allow the groove in the peg to seat better. also, install a stronger spring so that it maintains better tension on the locking mechanism. that should do it. It took me ages to convince the dealer that there was infact a problem and that this is how they should fix it(I didnt want to fix it myself as the defect resulted in damage to the faring).

Welcome and if you need any help/advice/tools for MODS this winter just ask, lot of folks here have been there done that and some even have a few spare parts hanging around. BTW if you are in Potomac, instead of Baltimore, on Wednesdays, weg get together every wednesday at this fine establishment

And on Monday nights in Baltimore you can find me at Little Havana or City Limits (not with bike however). During the riding season Speed of Speed's Cycle (local Ducshop for Baltimore) organizes Wednesday night rides to local watering holes.
