So, I just took my duc into the shop - apart from the leaky gasket being repaired, I need a new battery and regulator rectifier.

Anyone know of a good place to pick these up? They want $220 for the rectifier and $100 for the battery

I got a battery locally for $50 or so, and a rectifier/regulator from Electrosport for around $100. Check the sponsors, I know Ca Cycle sells regulators.

I think Ca-cycleworks can help you out on both of those items. I replaced my reg/rectifier with a "Rick's". I think Chris sells Electrex. Both are more reasonable alternatives.

What is the main thing I have to worry about to get a compatible battery? (size?)

It's big, heavy, and I run it because they last a long time.

Just ordered the rectifier from ElectroSport (ESR-530) - $109. I ordered a Power Source CB16AL-A2, which is meant to replace the YB16AL-A2, for $53 shipped. It's specs are at least as good as the OEM.

I'll follow-up once I install and run everything for a bit.

Minor thread jack. I was told that the YB in the above battery number indicated it was mabe by Yuasa, regardless of the label. Can anyone confirm this?

Yep, YB indicates Yuasa.
