My Fargin' Tach

595 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Orfeas
Okay, here's the deal: I cut my tach apart to repair the face (screws fell out). When I pulled things apart, ever so gingerly, the needle fell from its perch. When I reassembled, I stuck the needle back on and went my merry way. Now, when I plug it in and start the engine, it says I'm idling at 3k...my bike consistently idles at about 800-1k.

What did I do? And, am I doomed to cut the thing open yet again to fix the needle?

Thanks for any help.

Damn you, Ducman...DAMN YOU!!! <shakes fist at the sky> Sorry, I was just feeling theatrical. I suspected as much.

What do I have to do to fix it, though? Is there some special position I need to put it in? How do I tell?

I'd say about 2 grand left
Oh, aren't you a smarty! Thing is, I put it back on at zero; when I turn the key on, the needle sweeps up to 2k and sits there.

Try plugging it in and turn the bike on with it disassembled. Place needle at appropriate position while engine is not running. Start engine and note position, repeat as required.
Okay. Thanks.
Same happens to me with my 2nd set of clusters replaced under warranty, only i haven't opened them. A month after i installed them, the rpm needle showed 0-500rpm while idling. When i turned the key to off and to on again, the problem was fixed. After a wheelie or after running on a big ditch, tha same thing keep happening. My 3rd set of clusters (under warranty) are on the dealer, and i'm trying to steal some time to go and replace them....

Once again.... 0 kilometres for me....

:-[

Now i'll have to add kilometres from 3 sets of clusters to calculate the oil change intervals....

dammit
