Once again RoadGuy had a good post on his blog today about motorcycle safety. He got it right that I forwarded the New Zealand study about wearing bright colors to him, but I wasn't in that MPR article. Today's issue is one that has really been on my mind this year. It seems like there has been a lot of motorcycle fatalities this year. It's really kind of scary, but I've been reading articles almost every weekend about riders who go down, and it seems like most of them are because people turn left in front of riders. There have been a few that seem like they were probably not the other vehicles fault, but overwhelmingly it seems like they have been. This has been bothering me a lot lately. Stay safe and alert out there.

And in other news, the MPR had a nice article last week on motorcycles, kind of hashing over old news. But it was written by one of my law school classmates, and roadguy said I was in it, so I figured I'd post it.

On that note, apparently the Tom Gallagher (not Mike Gallagher - me) in that article rides a red Monster. Anyone know him? I'm sure we're not related ... but figured I'd better check anyways ;)

No helmets on any of the "fatalities" from the linked articles. In the couple's case helmets may not have made any difference, but you can die from head injury on a bicycle (or falling down in the shower) so I gotta wonder about the scooter incident. And a drunk driver can take you out in a car too...

I gave Tom Gallagher a ride from Silverback to downtown a while back. He had dropped off his Monster and was asking Heather about a bus stop... I was headed that way anyway. He said he often rides with the MNsportbike offshoot of the HSTA. Not to be confused with MNSportbike - the website.

You could probably get ahold of him through there if you're wondering about geneology...
