I bought a Dowco cover for 70 bucks -- it fits just fine and my bike is still wet from the SF air in the mornings. Is this all condensation or what? I'm thinking of applying some more waterproofing to the cover, but is it worth it? Any advice on how to keep a bike outdoors dry? Maybe I just need a better cover. Thanks.

Sounds like the dew is seeping through the cover--that or maybe it's a little damp when you put it on and it condensates on your bike after that. In any event, you should check to see what kind of conditions the cover is made for. I think some of them are just fabric--to keep the bike out of view. Others keep the weather out.

Have you tried just throwing a plastic bag or a tarp over it for the night to see what happens? I'm working through the process of elimination...

I've got the Dowco Weatherall Plus cover and I've been very happy with it. It's much thicker than other covers and also has a heat resistant lining on the bottom so you don't have to wait for your bike to cool off. Another nice thing about it is the heavy duty gromits to lock it down so it doesn't get blown off or stolen. I've had mine for about a year and its barely showing any wear. The guy I bought it from over at Berkeley Yamaha said he had his about two years and his bikes stayed dry through the rainy season while out in the street. It runs about $100 but if you flirt with the guy he'll give you a discount!
