I'm pretty sure the S2R (2007 1000cc) has the can-bus wiring in it, so the question I have is, would splicing any of the wires in the bundles that connect to the ECU cause a problem? My two bundles that connect to the ECU have some wires where insulation has cracked and exposed bare wire strands. I wanted to splice those wires and crimp with butt connectors but thought that might create problems since the can-bus wires are in that group. The bike does have an unlocked ECU, or if I disconnect the ignition antenna and gauge cluster it has no affect on the immobilizer. Thanks!

Suggest splice, solder and shrink tube instead of a butt connector. It is a better connection and you will reduce the impedance that is introduced from a butt connector.
