Monster Buying Advice - What's this worth?

Hi -

Looking to by my second monster - my '02 was stolen. Still have the red key on my shelf. Bastards.

So, there's a red 1993 M900 w/ 6800 miles - 6K service performed @ 5900. Never dropped or tracked. A couple of carbon goodies: covers and termi cans. Ceramic coated headers, and a Corbin seat. Stock otherwise. Fly screen has a surface scratch - no other blemishes. Rear tire needs replacing. Stock dual rotors up front. Don't know if the susp is adjustable - I'm athletic and weigh 230lbs - so that matters. Kept indoors in dry SoCal its whole life.

I don't know much about the older monsters. What's good, what's bad, what do I need to look out for, and what's it worth?

Thanks.

The cans are actually f.b.f - not termi.

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
11ty billion dollars

I think the question is whats it worth to you?

But I would venture a guess at 4500 or so
I have a yellow 620 with a hare over 2k miles for 4k,

bone stock, showroom condition
Yeah, I know the question is what is it worth to me ::)... that's what I'm trying to figure out.

I'm confused as to how much age impacts price w/ monsters since they seem to have been unchanged for a long time.

Is a 1993 w/ 7K miles worth the same as a 1996 and/or a 1999 w/ 7K miles?

$4500 seems high for a 13/14 year old bike...
but thats probley what it can fetch on the open market..... remember that the 900 is probley the most sought after of the monsters, plus the fact is that if the bike is as clean as you say it is...
the seller will hold out for what he wants
I paid $4300 for my '94 in 2004 with 3473 miles on it. Lots of carbon bits, immaculate throughout.

It has about 6500 on it now (and a few choice additions since the purchase) and someone would have to give me at least what I paid for it to pry it from my grubby little hands. ;)
Thanks - that's what I needed to know.

Time to dust off the helmet and start paying attention to where the cops like to trap... ;D.
$3500, look for head bolt upgrade. Good ones are bronze color & silver are bad ones.
That's the price I was thinking before the above posts - we'll see if I can talk him down to that.

I think the bolt is silver - why's that bad? Can't tell if the fork or shock is adjustable. Anybody know what's standard on a '93? Anything else a problem on the first year monsters?

Thanks again.
The forks should be 41mm nonadjustable Showas, ask if they have Race Tech valves or any other special work. The silver studs break. For a bike that is stockish, $3500 seems plenty, what would make it more valuable is if it had been draped in special parts like wheels, suspension, etc..
Ended up w/ an '03 M800 Dark. More pull than I expected, actually. Pristine, garage kept, 2680 miles. Stock other than a carbon seat cowl. I find myself making engine noises when I'm not riding. Bwaaaa, Bwaaaaa, Bwaaaaaa, B'bwaaa (downshift). I'm back, baby.

Time to call up the Remus dealer....

What did you end up paying for that '03 M800?

(Not that I'm in the market for another M800 or anything... ;))
Forty-five one-hundred-dollar-bills. The green rectangular kind.

What do you think?
Sounds like a decent deal. Good job! [thumbsup]

I bought my '04 M800 a year ago. It had only 400 miles on it, and I paid $6k.

Got any pictures yet? 'Cuz, you know this whole thread is worthless without 'em.
3 years ago I paid 3600 for my 94 900 with carbon fender, hugger, belt covers & DP cans. Also had the wonderful DP led tach (long gone, but actually worked) 11,900 miles.
I was trying to pick up that '93 900 w/ 7K miles, but the guy wouldn't come down - so I bought the 800.

I did call the Remus dealer...

Remus Grand Prix carbon high mounts installed this morning. This bike sounds pissed. Nasty deep growl - and loud. They're a b*tch to put on, and the instructions suck (Austrians...) - but the finished product is worth it. And it makes you ride faster. Don't know why - just does. Also makes you downshift unnessecarily.

Charcoal canister removed, and plate relocated. I was so close to chopping - but didn't have the balls. Besides, I was late for work as it was - so the beer tray remains (for now).

I know - pics. As soon as my camera stops being difficult. I can snap, but not upload.
I wouldn't freak over the inferior cylinder studs. Chris K has some good APE replacements for about $90 - $100 a set IIRC. If you are mechanically inclined you can change them yourself. They don't all break, but enough do that it is an identified problem area. So it makes a good bargaining chip when they haven't been upgraded yet. And then you can wait and see if they ever break or not before taking action ;D
