Hi Folks,

I am reading conflicting information whether on not you are required to have a tune to run competition werks slip on exhaust. Can someone explain whether you need a tune or not? and if so which tuning company do you recommend?

Thanks,
Brian

Always YES
Always NO

They couldnt sell enough if they told you to go get it done because you bought it...
So it will probably be fine. You might be putting a little more stress on the engine depending on how it came tuned from the factory and how flexible the computer that controls it is.
So you dont HAVE TO but YOU SHOULD.
You will certainly get more sound.
BUT
If you put it on a dyno and have it tuned (Because they can change the stock ECU tune OR because you added a Power Commander or something) it will run much better, smoother, fewer power dips. possibly/probably more power. And it will still sound better.
Then there is resale. No dealer selling a used bike with a pipe ever shows/has the paperwork for a specific tune for a pipe. Then they might be held liable for it. So when you trade it in you get nothing back.
Also, if you take it to a dealer and it gets an update will it erase what you had done? Depends on the update I imagine.
BUT
If you buy the Termis from the dealer with the upmap it sounds great, runs better, makes a little more power and it is fully supported. Shows when you start it... So if you sell it the buyer wont wonder if he needs extra cost later... and even the dealer can if you traded it in...

Plenty run without them. But these are not inexpensive toys.
