Probably a silly question, but will magnetic tank bag have any ill effect on camera's compact flash card or microdrive?

Compact flash cards are not magnetic, so no problem there. Microdrives are very well protected, plus if it's inside the metal camera case it shouldn't be an issue either. I wouldn't worry about it.

How about the magnetic strips on credit cards? I usually put my billfold in my bag.

I've got a Tourmaster Cortech magnetic bag, and a tag attached to it specifically warned " Do not store magnetic sensitive products in tank bag such as Credit Cards, VHS tapes, Computer Disks, etc."

I haven't had any trouble, but I haven't put any magnetic media in there either.

Ciao,

no warning signs in my german made cheapo tank bag,
and I have stored Digicamera and wallet there,
never plainly (card without wallet) against the bottom surface.

No problems this far.

I've been chucking my cell phone and wallet into my Joe Rocket tank bag for a few weeks now without even thinking about it. No problems (yet).
