The Bike: 2001 Monster 750 Dark.

The Need: Magnetic Tank Bag.

The Question: Can I attach a magnetic tank bag to this bike's tank?

I read somewhere that the Dark versions use a non-metallic tank? Is this correct, or only applies to certain models?

And if that is the case, Does the 2001 750 Dark use a metallic or a non-metallic tank?

yeah, your tank is made of carbon fiber. also you have ohlin internals for the forks. I also forgot to mention that your wheels are marchesini wheels too. DARK rules

monsters in North America have steel tanks. beware! the dark paint scratches easily.

How did Ducati come up with a non metalic tank, that sounds like metal when you tap on it, and dents like metal when you drop your bike? Those guys are AWSOME!

Anyway, I use a Marsee bag, it has 8 magnets, and is expandable to something like 22liters, or some sh!t like that. Even has a map window. Sticks like glue, too!

I use a DP magnetic bag that works like a charm and also sticks like glue. No problem with any stratching of the tank either.

The thing I don't like about a Tank bag is it's lack of mobility off the bike. I have an Oakley A pack - attaches great to the tank with a cargo net. No, not over the bag : - I use it too attach the backstraps to the frame under the tank. That leaves all the little pockets accessible . . . and it detaches easily once I get where I'm going. ( the cargo net stays on the tank camo'ing the BIG DENT ).

Don't sweat the magnetic bag on your Dark. I've been using the Joe Rocket for months with nary a problem. It's a great bag, BTW, because you can take the upper section off and use it as either a backpack or a tail bag on the rear of the seat, all for only $89! Any magnetic bag has the potential to scratch any tank, regardless of color. You simply don't want to drag it across the surface of your tank. Lay it down, attach the front security strap, hit the road. No problems.
