Hello,

I have a 2001 Monster 750 that I lost the one useable key for, while I was in the process of moving... hopefully it is just in a box or something! Anyhow I do have a blank that has a silver tag with some numbers on it! :D But when I called the local dealer in Minneapolis he told me that the numbers are worthless and that I would have to have the locset replaced at ($240 + tax) YIKES! or have a locksmith make a mold of the ignition and have the key recut...

I really have a hard time believing this since I was told when I purchased the bike that the blank and the number were for this exact situation. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

And I vowe to have an extra key or 2 made this time!!! ;)

Hrm i was told the same thing, lose a black key, your ok. Lose the red key, hello new ECU and goodbye some serious cash. I didnt think a locksmith could cut a new key for the 2k monsters since there has to be a electronic piece in the key itself.

He has an 01 no immobilizer=no red key....I almost answered the same thing...but on the bright side I am almost positive Ducati could track down the key cutting by the VIN... just a thought.. maybe not a good one but hey I'm just trying to help.

it baffles me that the dealers cant seem to be able to order keys by number. car dealers do it , and many can cut by number right there. anyhow, there is a Kawasaki blank that will work (can't remember the number). any real locksmith should be able to help you out.
