The world of cycling lost a great gentleman, a true friend to all those he met and knew as well as an advocate in the fight against childhood brain and spinal cord tumors when Mike Traynor passed away the weekend of Sept 12. Mike along with wife Dianne, founded the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and began the 'Ride for Kids' program in 1984, to help a coworker whose young child was suffering from a brain tumor. They took the fight and made it their life's work. That first ride for kids in Atlanta attracted only a handful of cyclists, yet because of their dedication to the cause recent events have grown to attract up to 600 motorcyclists and raise large amounts of money to fund research, provide family advocacy as well as scholarships to young brain tumor survivors. All this happened in the last 26 years and the cause only continues to grow stronger. I hope some of you have had the pleasure to be involved in one of these rides and had the even greater pleasure of meeting Mike and his staff. If not, please get out and ride in one near your town and see for yourself what my friend Mike Traynor so passionately worked to accomplish.

May he rest in peace and may his staff and the many of us dedicated motorcyclists continue the work he so selflessly started to help the youngsters and their families in times of crisis. May God also bless his family and friends and help them to get through this trying time. May they find the courage to soldier on because without the support for research, we will never see the end of this horrible plague on our kids.
