Re: Ladies-Friendly ride? (...Tie into Calarmari's weekly ride?)

I would Vote for another weekend. Due to Halloween parties on the 28th it's going to make for a rough 29th. I also have a Raiders game on Sunday so I won't be able to make it for sure. Another weekend on a Saturday and I'm sure the NAP and I would make it.

OK, so that's one for moving it back a week... We'll see how the rest of the votes shake out. :)

Location and time: North Bay route with either an initial breakfast/brunch meet-up around 9 or 10(??) or a picnic/lunch stop midday. I was thinking that this ride could happen a little later than our normal rides--once again, in an effort to make it a bit more newbie/s.o./weekend-partier friendly. [thumbsup]
that's a ffffabulous idea...

most of the SF group rides start way too early for me on weekends. i like me sleep, and some of us doin't live on the peninsula...

hope it's not raining....

So the later meeting time is definitely being met with approval. [thumbsup] Almost all of our rides start early and it might be nice to do something a little different. I thought since this ride is happening a little later in the year that the later start might afford us some better weather, too. It would be cool to get some S. Bay folks out with us--I know you guys have a long trek and getting there at 8 is just too much.

I'm in -- for 10/29 or 11/5. May I invite some gals not on the DML but are newbies?

I also like to nominate Spidey and his scooter with the picnic basket in front -- we can use a place to keep snacks [laugh] [laugh]

I think the weekend after Halloween would be good. I just did Lake Berryessa yesterday and it was really rather ideal for this ride. Perfect for newbies to their bikes because there are very little blind hairpin turns in succession, like those of Mount Tam and for most of it you can actually see what's going on with the road up ahead. There were also many nice spots to have a group picnic by the gorgeous blue lake. It also looked like there was a place to rent kayaks but I'll have to research that and make sure that's what it was. And can wrap up the ride by going through a little bit of wine country. The leaves were starting to turn so the colors in the fall light were nice to see. Though there were a lot of cars through wine country.....

You should definitely invite your newbie friends Ducky. The more the merrier

Can I wear the prom dress I have stashed in my closet over my gear? I'm not sure if it made it through the move from a coupla years ago, but it very well may have.

Wow, the ride in the fog must still be affecting me...I read porn instead of prom. Okay Spidey, it would be great to see you in your dress. Anyone else who wants a chance to wear that dress that's been kept in the closet, this is your chance. Come to think of it, I might borrow that 70s suit from my Dad - hope he still has it.

Re: Ladies-Friendly ride? (...Tie into Calarmari's weekly ride?)

It sounds like the majority are pushing for 11.05, so we'll nail it down right now. I don't want to push it much further back as weather might become a limiting factor. Not sure but if any of you are into the Vamp's rides, this date might conflict with that. It's not a big deal for me, but I wanted to make you guys aware of it.

I HIGHLY recommend dressing up in "costume" for this ride--give those Halloween outfits one last go 'round before tossing them in the back of the closet for a year. [laugh] [thumbsup] I would urge y'all to wear as much gear as you can, too, m'kay? ;) For instance, if you're planning on wearing a short skirt--throw on some shin guards or somethin'. Stay away from open-toed shoes. Don't wear stuff that can get caught in your chain or clutch or belts...that's more of a mental note to myself. :p

If people are serious about doing this ride all dressed up, I'll try to keep the mileage short and the visibility high. We might consider meeting up in SF for a brunch, do a little "publicity run" around town, and then take a short jaunt in the hills of N. Bay before heading home. Keep in mind that your costume, should we go this direction, should be able to withstand 60-70 mph speeds and it should be relatively warm. I'll leave it up to people to be smart about this and come up with something that doesn't compromise the safety of cars or your fellow riders.

Ducky: anyone is welcome on any of our rides--that goes without saying. [thumbsup] I think the general consensus is that invites are left up to the folks doing the inviting: don't bring someone along that you know rides like a jackoff or doesn't maintain his/her bike properly on a group ride--especially larger group rides. Breakdowns, crashes, injuries and death are real downers to a good cruise and I don't like updating the crash-ticker unnecessarily.

Re: Ladies-Friendly ride? Sun. Nov. 5th

I like the idea of meeting in SF and doing a publicity run around town - this could be leg one and then leg two goes on the freeway north somewhere. This way, a newbie not too comfortable on freeway or longer distance can join us for leg one. Also, some scooter peeps can join us on leg one too, such as my gf ;D

That's a really good point about the scooters. They could play with us in the city and then take off while the rest of us cross the bay. [thumbsup]

It's amazing you still let me ride with you all [cheeky]

Maybe the wife will make it out on this one, her back has been bugging her but she wants to ride.

Cheers

Puh-lease...accidents are one thing. They happen to nearly everyone. I know people who consistently have "accidents" a few times a year on the street--that's too much for me. I don't invite those people on DML rides anymore. :)

Hopefully the wifey can make it! [thumbsup] She'll have a really good time. This will definitely be a low-stress ride and a beautiful one if the weather holds for us.
