By anthrax I mean this roughed up patch on my exhaust. Is there a way to prevent this from getting worse?

Take the can off, wet sand with 600 paper and clear with polyurethane. I used Minwax from WalMart. I tried about 5 other types of clear (lacquer, acrilic etc.) everything else either yellowed or turned opaque.

That area *looks* like it got forced up into the peg mount, some of the laminate is broken.

Depending how much of it is broken, you may need to patch it.

Actually, now that I look at it again, the breakness continues to where the can mounts. Maybe the last guy didnt mount it right... or someone stepped on it...

Is it too hard to patch it myself? How do I go about doing this?

Looked at mine again after my last post. Finish is going again after 2 years. This time i think i'll use polyester resin. It is also worse on top, like it might be related to sunshine.
