Hello! This is my first post to this really impressive board, having only just heard about it from someone on the Ducati.ms board. I've got an '06 Sport 1000 (I know, I know, it's not a Monster! ;)) with a 1000DS motor. I'm building a racebike out of it, and I'm switching over to carbs and an MSD MC-4 ignition (please don't flame me now! I've already gotten blasted over there ). Things are moving along quite well, but I'm unable to find a stock ignition timing curve to use as a baseline anywhere. Can anyone here help out a fellow Ducatisti? [thumbsup] Thanks!

I don't absolutely *know*, but I'm 99% sure the OEM ECU has a timing map, dependent on RPM and throttle position.
It may also tweak the timing from engine temp, air temp, air pressure, or any other sensor it's got.

The MC4 is more of a drag-racing unit, so I don't think it's got an ignition map facility.

Is there a TPS sensor utility on the MSD & TPS on the carbs? Otherwise I think it`s gonna be a little tricky transferring OEM ign curve to it. Ie ignition curve looks quite different from carb
ones who is just a curve w 3 different points of mapping or at least was on the old 900`s.
You could try DynoJet, they have a couple of free maps f 1k 2v. Dunno if you could see the
ignition on them, though.
Or some w a PC3 could share theirs. Someone has a site where maps are shared, it`s a thread
here, try a search.

Otherwise interesting project, keep us posted!
1kDS to carbs, mmm... 8) [thumbsup]

You don't need a TPS for an electronic ignition. Electronic ignitions came out long before fuel injection and TPS sensors. The ignition curve varies based on rpm. The PCIII doesn't change the ignition curve either, just pulse width modulation for the fuel injectors.

I would check with Brad:

or Doug, he has done carb conversions on dual spark motors:

I did not say you have to have TPS for it, just that it`s tricky transferring
FI table to a regular curve f carbs. Example of FI ignition map:

SPARK MAP (DEGREES) THROTTLE %

I`m programming another ign unit right now and skipped the TPS utility.
No problemo but I have the old ign units curve & others to compare with.

+1 on contacting Brad & Doug, they will probably have good answers.

Many thanks to you both! That's great info [thumbsup]

I've got an email in to Brad, and I'm already working with Doug on some other issues: don't know why I didn't think to ask him about that ::)
