I can not believe how much I miss my 03 Monster 800 Dark. :'( I sold it to pay for a wedding that is in April. I miss how the bike looks, rides, and how much attention it got at every stop. I plan to get another Ducati in the next couple of years but over the past 2 weeks I feel like going out and just buying one! I am thinking of aS2R1000 next (PLEASE Ducati make a dark....I will even pay the same price as other S2r1000s. Trust me its not worth selling your Monster unless you are buying another Monster! ;)

:-\ Oh man. I'm so feeling your pain. I have no idea how I'd react to getting rid or loosing my bike. I'd probably just curl up and die. Seriously.
HA-

I miss riding my monster for the past 3 weeks now.

I hope I can hang on to it thru the wedding planning...

Q
My g/f understands that the bike isn't going anywhere if we ever get married. (she has set a 4 bike limit though not incuding if she gets one.)

Need to remember this if I'm ever having a prenup drawn up [thumbsup]

I am not sure if you are setting good precedent in that relationship by selling a bike for a wedding.

that is stupid, IMHO.
Exactly what I was thinking
She's got the upper hand now, you've set precedent! Don't panic, you can get it back, but it's not going to be easy.
I work with a guy who sold his bike before he got married. Lucky for me I got mine AFTER the nuptials.
Tell your fiance that she made her choice, she got a nice wedding but now no honeymoon because your getting another bike instead. [cheeky]

Tanya
All you guys that have plans on getting married please don't follow this persons tracks. You will regret it.

I think he can recover, but it'll be important to get a new bike ASAP after the wedding.

If he doesn't do it within 12 months after the wedding, my money says it won't happen 'til after lwszabo's kids are out of college... [laugh]

Wow, that sucks! I can imagine how that feels. I was going through Monster withdrawals recently when I was away for 2 weeks. I wouldn't sell mine, until I got a new one in my garage just in case something happened.

Recover?

The dude sold his bike to buy flowers and liquor for their friends. because SHE wanted it.

There is no recovering from this.

Next thing she will get pregnant and he will have to sell the bike to buy a crib
Aren't you an optimist... [laugh]

There is kind of an important underlying message here, though. Even though the guy's getting married, it's important to have hobbies and interests throughout life. Motorcycling falls into that category.

lwszabo--if you quit riding altogether, you'll regret it in the long run. You may choose to replace motorcycling with fishing (or something?), but you'll miss the bike - a lot.

Terrible - Can you set a poll up for us in NMC on this topic of selling for a wedding?
You can't do it yourself? ::)
my friend, this whole predicament could have been so easily avoided.
yes, thats right....... you got yourself a woman!
first mistake.
I am not sure what marriage means to americans, or why americans get married. But where I come from you do it because you want to, not because your girl wants to.

For my situation, I am only considering getting rid of the monster, because I have another bike in the stable.

She hasn't asked me to do it. But Financially it's the second largest monthly payout...

This smacks of feminine wisdom. Listen to the lady! [thumbsup]
isn't her dad supposed to be paing for things anyway?!?!

that's the way it usually goes right?

but seriously, it only costs like a hundred bucks at the courthouse...

You miss the bike alot already. as the days go by you'll miss it more and more and eventually grow to resent the little lady who "suggested" you sell your monster in order to pay for something that basically amounts to a well decorated open bar.

the type of woman who would allow you to do this has no respect for you.

you will be under her thumb untill the day you decide you can stand it no more.

kicking yourself for selling now? wait till after the divorce.

sigh.

Marry me, T.

Oh that's right, you're already hitched.

Dammit.

I know your pain after selling my 2003 800, and then getting a Beemer. I felt empty now I have a bigger cc Monster!
Why can't you hit her parents up for wedding cash? Isn't that what they're there for? I can understand thinning out a stable of bikes, but to get rid of your only one.... unthinkable.
