Saw this on Craig's list:
150 -- 2003 Ducati 800Sie Monster - $6850 (campbell)

New Bike, with less than 70 miles on it.
The bike is in Great Condition both Mechanically
and Cosmetically. V Twin Fun! Give me a Call for all details.
Brand New Ducati!

70 miles??
Jeez, riding it home from the dealer and going out for milk and gas should put more than that on the bike. Must've trailered it... ;) I doubt this is anyone on the list, but just in case I'd love to know the story.

I actually checked those bikes out while searching for a Monster. They have a weird story.... The guy bought them at auction in NJ where they were salvaged by the insurance company. Apparently, he's in the business of selling bikes wholesale. They both looked really clean, but i just couldn't get past the salvaged title thing...

Ah, thanks for solving that little riddle. Salvage bikes can be OK, as long as you know what you're getting. Insurance companies sometimes write off perfectly sound bikes for expensive cosmetics.

As the owner of a salvage title Ducati currently, one in the past (a 96 M900), and the remains of one that may become a salvage title bike in the future, I have a little bit of experience in this area.

My insurance agent told me they don't care if the bike has a salvage title or not. They're mainly concerned with how big the engine is.

It doesn't take much to do $4-5000 damage to a bike. If you have to replace all of the controls, pipes and tank you're about there. Fortunately, there are people out there selling used parts that can come in useful for your repairs.
