i'm sitting here at work, just curious... what do you fella's do anyways?

i work as a design engineer, building custom respiratory circuits. a respiratory circuit is what christopher reeve has sticking out his throat, the tubes look like they came from that wacky 80's game "Tuba-Ruba". i've been spending half this year traveling to california for training.

originally, i wanted to be a rockstar. but i got frustrated when i couldn't rock out like eric johnson. so now i do this!

so pretty much im sitting in front of a computer all day. which is why i reply to posts so quickly...

"I've been working on ther railroad all the live long days"

I am a Track Supervisor or "Roadmaster" for a Class I Railroad.

I don't play with trains:

It's not my place to run the train.
The whistle I can't blow.
It's not my place to say how far the trains allowed to go.
It's not my place to shoot off steam nor even clang the bell.
BUT let the damn thing jump the track...and see who catches hell!

I work for a consulting firm in Chicago. My primary responsibilites are ITrelated items, project management, and north central RNA.

I'm ready to get out of my current job though. I want to go into computer forensics.

I too sit at a PC all day and that is how I am able to respond so quickly.

I am a Histologist. Histology is the study of tissue from a cellular perspective. Basically, when any piece of tissue is removed from the body (willingly or not) we preserve it (so that the tissue doesn't decay), and cut the tissue at 3-4 microns (a micron is the size of a whole in a sheet of paper) and place it on a glass slide for microscopic analysis. We stain tissue to show different elements of the cellular and/or muscular structure, which aid in diagnosis. Autopsies are also done in my department and chemistry and biology are heavily influenced in my lab. So be careful if I size you up!

I have spent the last 3 years working for Bloomingdale public works in the street dept. plow and salt snow, rip up roads and put em back down, sidewa;lks too. and for my part time job I work at a police supply store for the last 9 years. selling guns bodyarmor, duty belt, clothing you know basically the stuff you see when a cop pulls you over they can come in to the store in plain clothes and leave in complete uniform.

Sounds kinda boring compared to what you guys do but it pays the bills

I'm in the same boat as Mark. I work for the Dupage County Highway Department, or D.O.T as many would like to say. I have been there for 7 years and I too break and repair roads, cut grass, concrete work, plow snow/lay salt. The highlight of my job though, is all the great machines I get to operate. I have said that in our line of work, we are every little kids hero. We drive big dump trucks, use back hoes, front end loaders, dozers, etc. My favorite is operating the gradall and the cat crawler. The gradall is a machine that has a telescopic digging boom on a moving chassis. Has 2 cabs, one drivers cab and a seperate to operate the digging cab. The cat crawler is basically a dozer, with a bucket not a cutting blade. I basically use that during the winter to put salt in the domes (we have 2). You need a machine like that to get as much in there as possible, you can climb pretty high in one, it's fun. Other than that, nothing special about my job other than the paid sun tanning during the summer. 8)

mark, you get to play with guns at work? that's awesome!!! you get to shoot them too?

have you guys ever been plowing and then hit a big ass piece of something? my buddy plows parking lots and he drives like 40mph straight into a snowbank, causing the butt of the truck to fly up in the air. or sometimes he hits those parking stumps. FUN!!!! i hope you guys don't have to fix those toys if ya break 'em though...

I actually just moved here this past July from Florida. I was an engineer, a civilian, working for the Air Force. I flight-tested fighter aircraft, did a lot of computer modeling, and tested developmental weapons systems. Basically, all the stuff you saw on CNN during Afghanistan and Iraq went through my office, we tested, and put out into the field. Now, I'm teaching Physics and Math at a prep school, grades 9-12. Thought I'd bring some real world experience into the classroom for a year. I'm actually starting to look for a new job once this school year is over, hopefully a career change into the business world, markets/finance, something along those lines...

I've been swamped here, so I haven't actually posted much lately. Need to get rid of that "newbie" moniker!
